FRISCO, Texas - For the third straight season, the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer team has been chosen first by league head coaches in the Southland Conference preseason poll. SFA was a large favorite in the coaches' poll and was tabbed third in the Sports Information Directors' poll, according to voting results released Thursday by league officials.

The Ladyjacks earned four first-place votes and 73 points in the voting by coaches, giving them a 12-point edge over second-place Southeastern Louisiana. Despite finishing third in the sports information poll, SFA still garnered 66 points and three first-place votes, giving the Ladyjacks more total first-place selections -- seven -- than any other squad.

SFA returns nine starters and 13 letterwinners from the 2006 season. The Ladyjacks went 9-8-1 last year and finished third in the SLC with a 5-2-1 conference mark.

The Ladyjacks will open exhibition play with a game at Centenary College in Shreveport, La., on Aug. 17. They'll follow that up with a home exhibition against TCU on Aug. 22, before opening regular-season action with back-to-back home games against St. Edward's and Creighton on Aug. 31 and Sept. 2, respectively.
