UTEP Halts Ladyjacks Win Streak
Sept. 21, 2002 EL PASO, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer team's two-game win streak was ended Friday night as SFA lost to UTEP, 6-1. The Ladyjacks fall to 2-4 on the season. SFA was done in by four first-half goals, the first of which came only 3 minutes and 29 seconds into the game. The Miners scored their second goal at the 11:34 mark from Miranda Cuthbertson and proceeded to score two more goals within the next 16 minutes of the contest. The Ladyjacks slowed the UTEP momentum a little when sophomore Sarah Johnson (Fort Worth, Texas) netted an unassisted goal in the 37th minute of the game. It was Johnson's second goal of the season. But it was more of the same in the second half as the Miners added two more goals to close out the scoring. "UTEP is a very fast, technically sound team," said SFA head coach Nicole Nelson. "They are playing very well right now. The girls played well tonight. We made some adjustments at halftime and the girls executed some things in the second half. We are a better team after this loss." The Ladyjacks return to action Sunday against UC Riverside. The game is slated to get underway at noon, in El Paso, Texas. -SFA- |
