SFA Drops Season Opener To Oregon State, 9-0

TEMPE, Arizona - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks opened the 2013 season with a 9-0 loss in their first of five games of the Kajikawa Classic Thursday afternoon at the Tempe Sports Complex.
SFA (0-1) will look to bounce back tomorrow when they face San Diego State at 1:30 p.m., followed by a showdown against No. 5 Oregon.
Oregon State (1-0) scored three runs in each of the first, third and seventh innings on nine hits. Beavers' senior starting pitcher Marina Demore pitched a complete game shutout, allowing just three hits in seven innings of work and striking out five.
SFA senior starting pitcher Angela White allowed all nine runs, eight of which were earned, on nine hits, three walks and three strikeouts. Junior shortstop Elizabeth Arana, junior first baseman Cadie Weaver and freshman designated hitter Shanice Love all had one hit a piece for the Ladyjacks.
Oregon State's Elizabeth Santana drove in the game's first run on an RBI single in the top of the first to plate Hannah Bouska. Two batters later Natalie Hampton plated two more runs on a single to right field to make the score 3-0.
After three more runs in the top of the fourth, Hampton added to her big day with a two-run home run in the top of the seventh to make the final of 9-0.
