Feb. 13, 2013
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks, despite recording five hits as a team, were held scoreless in a 6-0 loss to the No. 7/9 Texas Longhorns Wednesday night at Red & Charline McCombs Field.
SFA (2-4) was led at the plate by freshman Rylie Chappell, who finished two-for-three with two singles and a stolen base. Chappell was the lone ‘Jack to record a multi-hit performance, the first of her career. SFA also saw freshman Alisa Hamilton, sophomore Shalie Day and junior Cadie Weaver record hits in the loss, each going one-for-three.
Junior Carlie Thomas (2-1) took the loss, surrendering six runs (five earned) on 10 hits across five innings in the circle. The loss is the first of the season for Thomas, who recorded three strikeouts and two walks in the effort.
SFA would threaten to score their first four trips to the plate, stranding six runners in all on the base paths.
After a scoreless first inning from either team, Texas (6-0) capitalized on a three-hit inning, prodded by a leadoff double from junior Taylor Thom, and one SFA error to take a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second.
The ‘Horns would add three more runs across the remaining five innings to arrive at the 6-0 decision and keep Texas undefeated at home to start the 2013 season.
The ‘Jacks will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 15 when they travel to College Station Texas, to participate in the Aggie classic. SFA will play North Carolina at 10 a.m., before facing Pittsburgh at 12:15 p.m.
