SFA Drops Two To Longhorns

AUSTIN, Texas -- The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack softball team dropped both ends of a non-conference doubleheader Wednesday evening to the University of Texas (16-0), by scores of 14-1 and 3-0. SFA (8-9) was held in check by Texas pitching the opener, but held its own in the 3-0 loss in the nightcap.
Crissy Autry pitched game two for SFA, working six innings and taking the loss. Autry, now 4-4 on the year, allowed three runs on six hits, while walking one and striking out three Longhorn hitters. Wynter Turner was 2-3 in game two for Texas, collecting a home run and a double in three trips. She drove in all three Longhorn runs.
SFA managed four hits off Texas pitching in the nightcap, leaving six baserunners stranded. Tara Hersey, Brooke Chandler, Meryl McGuire and Autry each collected a hit off Texas starter Amy Bradford, of Lufkin, in game two.
The first game of the doubleheader was all Texas as the Longhorns scored 14 runs on 14 hits off starter Nicole Carter (1-3). Only five of the 'Horns runs were earned as the SFA defense gave up four errors in four innings of work.
Texas pitcher Cat Osterman recorded 10 strikeouts in moving to 10-0 on the year and with the 10 k's became the all-time strikeout leader for the Longhorns.
SFA opens Southland Conference play Saturday afternoon against Sam Houston, in Huntsville.
