SFA Stifled in College Station

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack softball team dropped a doubleheader by scores of 3-0 and 8-0, as the No. 9 Texas A&M Aggies completed the season sweep Wednesday night at the Aggie Softball Complex in College Station, Texas.
SFA (4-9) was outhit 14-4 by A&M (12-0) across the two games.
The `Jacks will enjoy more than a full week off before retaking the field Friday, Mar. 1, for the Under Armour Invitational in Clearwater, Florida. SFA will play two games on the opening day of the tournament, playing against Maine at 10 a.m. and Central Connecticut at 12:15 p.m. at the Eddie C. Moore Complex.
Game One: TAMU 3, SFA 0
Junior Carlie Thomas (4-3) spun her fifth complete game of the season in the loss. The Huntington, Texas, native surrendered three runs on six hits and finished with five strikeouts and four walks across six innings.
SFA finished with four hits, led at the plate by junior Elizabeth Arana. The Houston-native finished two-for-three with a pair of singles. Arana recorded the only multi-hit performance in three games against the Aggies. Bethany Brown and Shalie Day also recorded a hit apiece. Brown finished one-for-three with a double, while Day went one-for-three with a single.
SFA left six total runners on the base path, unable to push any runs across in the shutout.
A&M only outhit the `Jacks 6-4, but capitalized on a triple and home run to claim the 3-0 final. The Aggies scored two runs in the first on a triple from Amber Garza, before adding one on a solo shot from Meagan May in the bottom of the fifth.
Game Two: TAMU 8, SFA 0 (6)
Texas A&M starter Mel Dumezich (8-0) fanned seven SFA batters in her first career no-hitter.
Angela White (0-6) took the loss in her fourth complete game of the season. White allowed eight runs, seven earned, with five walks and two strikeouts on the night.
The Aggies recorded eight hits, four doubles and four singles, scoring four of their six trips to the plate to claim the 8-0 run rule.
