Huskies Edge SFA
Feb. 23, 2011
HOUSTON, Texas - Senior Monika Covington threw a three-hitter, but Stephen F. Austin couldn't get the hits it needed with runners on base in a 2-0 loss at Houston Baptist on Wednesday.
The Ladyjacks (2-10) stranded nine runners, including six in scoring position. Houston Baptist improved to 5-4 with the win.
The Huskies got all the offense they would need in the second, thanks to a pair of walks, followed by a two-run double from Kate Maddock. Covington put the clamps on after that, though. She allowed just two more hits and didn't let a runner advance past second in her last four innings of work.
SFA's best chance to score came in the third. Amber Price hit a one-out double to right-center, then moved to third on a ground ball by Nicole Wooten. Elizabeth Arana then drew a walk and stole second to give the Ladyjacks two runners in scoring position. But the Huskies escaped the inning on a strikeout.
Covington (0-6) finished with two runs allowed on three hits and four walks with six strikeouts through six innings.
The Ladyjacks' next action will be this weekend in the UAB Magic City Classic.
