SFA Falls Twice At Under Armour Invitational
March 2, 2013 CLEARWATER, Fla. - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks found the going tough offensively on Saturday, dropping two games by a combined margin of three runs and scoring just three runs total. SFA dropped the morning game 3-1 to Western Michigan and then lost a 3-2 heartbreaker in eight innings to Georgia Southern. SFA will play their final game at the Under Armour Invitational tomorrow against Central Michigan at 10:30 a.m. Game 1: Western Michigan 3, SFA 1 The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks managed just one run on four hits in a 3-1 loss to Western Michigan (4-10) on the day two of the Under Armour Invitational. Sophomore Becca Shemberger (2-4) earned the victory in the circle for the Broncos, allowing just the one run (unearned) on four hits while striking out nine Ladyjacks in the complete game victory. SFA senior Angela White saw her individual record fall to 0-8 by allowing three earned runs on five hits. White struggled with her control, walking four batters and hitting three batters. SFA's lone run came in the third inning on an RBI single from Bethany Brown, plating Lindsay Campbell from third base. However, WMU would add single runs in the fifth and seventh innings to earn the victory, scoring on an RBI groundout in the fifth and an RBI single by Loren Nagy in the seventh. Game 2: Georgia State 3, SFA 2 (8 innings) Georgia State's Kaitlyn Medlam carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning before surrendering a bloop double to Nicole Wooten. However, the Panthers would hold on to win their first extra-inning contest of the season. Junior starting pitcher Carlie Thomas saw her record fall to 5-4 despite pitching all eight innings and allowing just two earned runs. Thomas allowed just five hits and struck out seven. -SFA- |
