SFA Softball Winless on Day 1 of Tulsa Tourney
March 3, 2006 TULSA, Okla. - In the first game of Friday's doubleheader at the Best Western Airport Festival, the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks suffered against the Kansas Jayhawks and were defeated, 5-0. Later in the day, however, the Ladyjacks kept the No. 17 Nebraska Huskers at bay, but could not hold on and lost, 2-1. In the top of the first inning against the Huskers, lead-off hitter Carrie Woydziak struck out but was able to reach first on a passed ball and move on to second on a wild pitch thrown by Nebraka's Molly Hill. A throwing error by Hill allowed Woydziak to cross the plate and give the Ladyjacks an early 1-0 lead. The Ladyjacks would keep the lead until the bottom of the third inning when the Huskers tied things up after Jamie Waldecker reached on a center field double and scored on a double down the left field line hit by Trisha Tannahill. SFA was able to keep things tied up until the bottom of the sixth inning when the Huskers scored on a solo home run, given up by senior pitcher Nicole Carter. Carter took the loss to move her record to 1-5, with senior starter Traci Moore taking the no-decision. In the first half of the doubleheader, the Ladyjacks only put two runners on the basepaths and could not come through as they fell to the Jayhawks, 5-0. Freshman pitcher Kari Hugie took the loss for SFA and now sits with a 1-2 record on the season. The two losses pushes the Ladyjacks' overall record to 5-7. SFA will face Northern Iowa and Tulsa in Day 2 of the Best Western Airport Festival in Tulsa, Okla. on Saturday. The games will begin at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., respectively. -SFA- |
