White's Dominance Leads SFA To 1-0 Victory
March 6, 2013
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Behind a strong pitching performance from senior Angela White, the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks softball team defeated the Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters 1-0 Wednesday afternoon in SFA's home opener.
SFA (6-13) snapped a four-game losing streak thanks in part to White's first victory of the season. The senior hurler went all seven innings limiting La. Tech to just five hits and one walk while striking out eight batters.
The Ladyjacks lone run came in the second inning on a clutch two-out RBI single by freshman outfielder Alisa Hamilton, plating second baseman Lindsay Campbell from second base. Hamilton had a superb day at the plate, going 3-for-3 from the nine hole of the lineup.
Perhaps the biggest play of the game came in the top of the sixth inning when SFA center fielder Bethany Brown threw out the potential game-tying run at home plate on a single by Melanie Goff. With two outs in the inning, Goff hit a one-hopper to Brown, who charged the ball and threw a strike to SFA catcher Charlotte Singleton and applied the tag on Kristen Miles to preserve the 1-0 lead.
La. Tech's Michelle Jones took the loss in the circle, dropping her record to 6-5 and lasting only 3.1 innings.
SFA will now turn their eyes towards Southland Conference action beginning this weekend when they travel to Conway, Ark. for a three-game series against the Sugar Bears beginning Saturday at 11 a.m.
