Ladyjacks Fall Twice At Central Arkansas

CONWAY, Ark. - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks softball team dropped a pair of games in the Southland Conference opening series at Central Arkansas on Saturday.
SFA (6-15, 0-2) was blanked 3-0 in game one and then were unable to hold onto a 7-1 lead in game two before falling 11-8. The Ladyjacks will look to salvage the third game of the series on Sunday at 12 p.m.
Game 1: UCA 3, SFA 0
Offensively the Bears were led by twin sisters, Melissa and Melanie Bryant, both of which were responsible for all three runs UCA scored in the game. Melissa Bryant hit her first home run of the season in the bottom of the first to give the Bears an early 2-0 lead. Melanie Bryant drove home the final run of the game in the fifth inning on an RBI single to make the score 3-0.
SFA starting pitcher Carlie Thomas fell to 5-5 on the season by allowing all three runs on seven hits and eight strikeout in six innings of work.
Game 2: UCA 11, SFA 8
Bethany Brown led the Ladyjacks with three hits in the losing effort and two RBI. Freshman outfielder Alisa Hamilton also had a big game with a three-run single in the fourth inning that at the time gave SFA a 4-1 advantage.
Thomas came in to relief starting pitcher Angela White and took the loss in the circle, falling to 5-6. White surrendered nine runs (seven earned) over four innings of work.
UCA scored four decisive runs in the fifth inning on seven hits and a walk. Overall, eight different Bears' hitters had at least one RBI.
