Softball Sweeps Saint Louis In Non-Conference Doubleheader

SFA swept both ends of a non-conference doubleheader Wednesday afternoon over the Billikens of Saint Louis University by scores of 3-0 and 3-2. The wins move SFA to 14-13 overall for the year and a perfect 5-0 at home.
SFA scored a run in the bottom of the first inning and Crissy Autry made it stand up as she held St. Louis scoreless on only four hits as she went the distance to move to 7-8 on the year. Autry struck out nine along the way and has 32 strikeouts in her last 19 innings pitched.
Carrie Woydziak opened things up for the 'Jacks with a triple and scored one batter later when Jaime Brown singled her home. The 'Jacks added a couple of insurance runs in the bottom of the fifth inning following a leadoff single from Brooke Chandler. She moved to second on a sacrifice off the bat of Ragen Rutherford, then scored when Devin Cobb singled. Meryl McGurie came on to run for Cobb and stole second base. She was moved to third on a sacrifice and later scored on a ground ball off the bat of Carrie Woydziak.
SFA also scored a run in the bottom of the first inning in game two when Woydziak singled, stole second and moved to third on a wild pitch. She scored when Jaime Brown grounded out to the mound.
The 'Jacks scored another run in the bottom of the frouth inning on a solo home run off the bat of Brooke Chandler.
Saint Louis came right back to tie the score at 2-2 in the top of the fifth scoring two runs on only one hit, taking advantage of two SFA errors. Devin Cobb started and worked 4.2 innings for SFA, giving up two runs on only one hit. She gave way to Nicole Carter in the fifth inning, as Carter worked only one-third of anning, but picked up the win as SFA scored the eventual winning run in the bottom of the fifth inning. Crissy Autry worked the final two innings for the save as she did not allow a hit and struck out four. Her strikeout total is now up to 36 strikeouts in 21 innings pitched.
SFA returns to action Friday as the take on Prairie View A&M in a single game starting at 1:00 p.m.
