'Jacks Lose Three To UT-San Antonio
March 20, 2002
The SFA softball team (5-32, 1-8) dropped a three game series to the UT-San Antonio Roadrunners over the weekend. SFA was shutout in all three games and avoided its sixth no-hitter against the team in the third game of the series with a single off the bat of Meryl McGuire. SFA has been shutout in four straight games and has not scored a run in 29.1 consecutive innings. UT-San Antonio won game one of the three game set by a final score of 5-0, scoring all five runs in the bottom of the third inning. Kristin Nolan was charged with the runs, all of which were earned. Nolan worked 2.2 innings, giving up five runs on three hits and walking four batters. Devin Cobb came on in relief of Nolan and worked the final 3.1 innings, not allowing a run on three hits. In game two, UTSA pounded out 13 hits, scoring 10 runs in the five inning game. The second inning proved to be the downfall of the 'Jacks as UTSA exploded for a ten run inning in cruising to the win. Devin Cobb (3-9) took the loss working only one inning and giving up seven runs on eight hits. The series concluded with an 8-0 UTSA win over SFA. The Roadrunners once again touched up a pair of SFA pitchers as Traci Moore (2-12) took the loss in going 3.2 innings and allowing six runs on eight hits. Kristin Nolan came on in relief and gave up two runs on two hits in 2/3 of an inning. SFA returns the Coy Simms Softball Complex for only the third time this season this weekend and the team plays host to Sam Houston. The Southland Conference series begins with a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at 1:00 and concludes Sunday afternoon with a single game at 1:00 p.m.
