SFA Takes Series Win Over UTA

March 22, 2008

Box Score

ARLINGTON, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks drew first blood then collected some insurance to take a 4-1 win at UT-Arlington Saturday in the rubber match of their three-game series. The win gives SFA victories in all four of its three-game SLC series to date.

SFA opened the scoring when senior Jessica Tullos blasted a two-out home run in the top of the third inning.

The Ladyjacks added to their lead in the fourth with another long ball. Freshman Ashley Struchtemeyer led off with a single down the left-field line. Two at-bats later, junior Kim Daley bashed a two-run homer to give SFA a 3-0 lead.

The Mavericks plated a run in the bottom half of the inning, but SFA responded in kind in the top of the sixth. Freshman Monica Hirsch got things started with a two-out infield single, then stole second base to get into scoring position. Harper singled to center field, bringing Hirsch home and setting the final score.

Freshman Monika Covington held UTA to one earned run on six hits and three walks. She recorded nine strikeouts, as she improved to 12-6.

The Ladyjacks (22-14, 9-3 SLC) will next play on Saturday, March 29, when SFA hosts Southeastern Louisiana.
