CONWAY, Ark. - Monika Covington tossed a two-hit shutout Sunday as Stephen F. Austin wrapped up a three-game road sweep of Central Arkansas with a 6-0 win. The victory pushes the Ladyjacks' record to 26-14 on the season and 13-4 in Southland Conference play.

Covington, SFA's freshman ace, recorded nine strikeouts and allowed only one walk and a hit batsman, in addition to the two hits. She improved to 14-7 on the year.

Meanwhile the Ladyjacks got all the offense they needed with a five-hit, six-run fourth inning.

Kendal Harper led off with a single, and Kari Hugie chased her with a double, giving SFA two runners in scoring position. They were both able to trot home, though, as the next batter, Jessica Tullos, blasted a home run to center field. Six batters later, Monica Hirsch came through with a two-out triple that cleared the bases and set the final score. A Briana Bishop walk, followed by a single from Ashley Struchtemeyer and a fielder's choice by Moriah Davis had loaded the sacks.

For the game, SFA outhit the Bears, 8-2. Hirsch went 2-for-4 with three RBI from the leadoff spot to pace the Ladyjacks. Bishop was 2-for-2 in the game.

With the win, SFA maintained its hold on second place in the Southland Conference. The Ladyjacks will travel to Waco, Texas, Wednesday for a mid-week, non-conference game against Baylor, before resuming SLC action with a three-game set at Nicholls State starting Saturday. Wednesday's game is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. start.
