Softball Season Opens Friday
Jan. 28, 2004 Softball season opens Friday for the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack softball as the 'Jacks travel to Tempe, Ariz. to take on Arizona State of the Pac-10. SFA and Arizona State will play single games Friday, Saturday and Sunday with the Friday and Saturday games getting underway at 8:00 pm CST. The Sunday afternoon game will begin at 2:00 pm CST. SFA returns seven starters from last season's 27-31 team and has also added some help in the form of pitching and offense. OF Carrie Woydziak, one of the team's leading offensive players a year ago, returns from late season injuries that caused her to miss most of the month of April. With her healthy return and the addition of some bats in the middle of the lineup, SFA should improve offensively. Crissy Autry, a senior from Baytown, returns to anchor the pitching staff after posting an 11-15 record and a 1.86 ERA a year ago. Autry worked 165.2 innings last season striking out 195 batters. She was bothered by the long ball, giving up 14 home runs on the year. Following the season opening trip to Arizona State, the 'Jacks return home the following week to host Texas A&M, Sunday, Feb. 8 in a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader at the Coy Simms Softball Complex. |
