Ladyjacks To Host A&M-Corpus

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Fresh off a 2-1 series win at McNeese State, the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack softball team will look to win its third straight Southland Conference series this weekend when Texas A&M-Corpus Christi comes calling. The three-game series is set to kick off Saturday at 1 p.m. with the first game of a double-header. The series finale will begin Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Ladyjacks are aiming for their third straight series win and third consecutive SLC victory overall, after taking the last two games of their mid-week set with McNeese State. SFA took an 8-1 victory in Game 2 and won Game 3, 9-6. The Ladyjacks (17-12, 4-2 SLC) blasted a combined four home runs in the two games.

SFA enters this weekend's series with a .263 team batting average. Sophomore Kendal Harper leads the team with her .398 average and is tied for third on the team with 15 RBI. Her seven doubles lead the team. Junior Kari Hugie is second with a .323 average and four home runs. Freshman Ashley Struchtemeyer leads the squad with six home runs and is third on the team with a .310 batting average.

Freshman Monika Covington carries a 1.54 ERA and a 9-5 record to lead a pitching staff that has posted a 2.33 ERA to this point.

The Islanders come to Nacogdoches with a 12-11 season mark and a 5-4 record in Southland Conference play.
