SFA Set To Take On Central Arkansas
April 4, 2008
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack softball team will take on Central Arkansas in a three-game road Southland Conference series this weekend. The first two games are scheduled for a doubleheader Saturday, starting at 5 p.m. The games were originally set for earlier in the afternoon but were pushed back due to inclement weather and poor field conditions. SFA battled weather issues in its last SLC series, a home set against Southeastern Louisiana last weekend. The teams split the first two games, then had Sunday's finale washed out by rain. The Ladyjacks (23-15, 10-4 SLC) enter Saturday's games in third place in the conference standings. The two teams ahead of SFA in the standings -- Texas State and UTSA -- square off this weekend. The Ladyjacks' opponent, Central Arkansas, is 0-14 in league play and 2-28 on the season with a 21-game losing streak. SFA leads the Southland with a 2.08 ERA and is second in the league in batting with a .279 average. Freshman Monika Covington is second in the SLC in ERA at 1.46, and her 123 strikeouts lead the conference. Sophomore Kendal Harper is sixth in the conference in batting average with a .393 mark. She is second in the league in triples with four, one behind junior teammate Benet Higgs. Freshman Ashley Struchtemeyer and senior Jessica Tullos are currently tied for third in the league in home runs with seven apiece. Barring further weather delays, this weekend's series is scheduled to wrap up Sunday with the finale at noon. -- SFA --
