Softball Signs Left Handed Pitcher
April 11, 2002 NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- Stephen F. Austin softball coach Jennifer Poulsen announced to day that Nicole Carter, a pitcher / outfielder from Sacramento, California has agreed to play softball and continue her education at SFA, next year. Carter, a 5-7 pitcher will graduate of Sacramento's Christian Brothers High School in May. "Nicole is someone that we really wanted to sign and I am very pleased to be able someone with her talent to the team. not Nnly is she a talented pitcher, but she is also a great hitter and will bring a lot of things to the team," said Poulsen. Carter was a four year starter for Christian Brothers High School, and was voted the team MVP following the 2001 season. The left handed pitcher has posted a career ERA of 0.76 and has recorded 11 shutouts in her career. Carter also earned All-Metro League honors last year as a junior, and holds a career batting average of .275. The 5-7 pitcher also plays summer league ball for the Roseville Heat where she led the team to the 2001 Triple Crown Championship, earning Triple Crown Offensive Player All-Tournament team honors along the way. Carter will enroll at the university next fall.
