NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack tennis team kicked off the 2004 spring season Friday afternoon against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at the SFA Tennis Courts. The Ladyjacks lost a tough battle, 4-3.

The Ladyjacks started the match taking a 1-0 lead as the doubles team of Robin Houston and Laura Harrison picked up a victory at No. 1 doubles and the Ladyjacks' Megan Langston and Kama Scott won at No. 3 doubles. The Islanders picked up wins at Nos. 1 and 2 doubles take a one-point lead but SFA fought right back to tie the match at 2. Freshman Lauren Nowicki beat the Islanders Lana Burrow, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 3 singles even up the match. But the Islanders won two of the three remaining singles matches for the victory.

Scott also picked up a singles win for SFA with her 4-6, 6-3, 6-1, victory over the Islanders Lauren Schmidt at the No. 5 position.

The Ladyjacks return to action Thursday Feb. 5, when they host Louisiana Tech. The match is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m., from the SFA Tennis Courts.
