SFA Opens Spring with a Win

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack tennis team opened their spring schedule with a 6-1 win over Prairie View A&M Saturday in Prairie View. Laura Harrison, Roxana Enica and Rijalda Zejnic each had two wins in the match against the Lady Panthers.

Harrison, a senior from Shreveport, La., took the No. 1 singles match with scores of 6-4 and 6-2. She and Enica also defeated PVAM's No. 1 doubles team, 8-2. Enica, a freshman from Constanta, Romania, also won in No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-2. Zejnic, the third Ladyjack to post two wins Saturday, fell in the first set of the No. 5 singles flight, 3-6, but rebounded in the second set with a 6-3 win and took the tiebreaker 10-6. In No. 3 doubles, Zejnic and Lauren Nowicki defeated PVAM, 8-4.

For SFA, sophomore Gabriela Gadeva took a 6-3, 6-4 win in No. 4 singles. Freshman Tatiana Smolnikova also took the win with a score of 6-4, 6-0 in No. 6 singles.

The Ladyjacks will face Arkansas State on Saturday, Feb. 10 in Natchitoches, La.
