NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack tennis team fought through the cold, wet conditions to pick up their first victory of the season knocking off Centenary, 5-2, Thursday afternoon at the SFA Tennis Courts. The Ladyjacks are now 1-1 (.500) on the season.

The Ladyjacks fell behind early when Centenary picked up victories at Nos. 1 and 2 doubles to win the doubles point and take a 1-0 lead. SFA was down, 2-0, when freshman Laura Harrison defeated Christine Majchrowicz, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 2 singles, putting the Ladyjacks on the scoreboard. Classmate Lauren Nowicki followed that up with a 6-2, 6-0, win over the Ladies' Heather Kelley at No. 3 singles. Sophomore Megan Langston gave the Ladyjacks their first lead of the afternoon when she defeated Centenary's Brandy Smith, 7-6, 2-6 (7-0) at No. 4 singles. Freshman Kama Scott iced the win for SFA when she picked up a singles win at the No. 5 spot.

Junior Melissa Bass also picked up a singles win for SFA, while the duo of Langston and Scott recorded the Ladyjacks' lone doubles victory.

The Ladyjacks return to action Friday when they host Texas Southern. The match against the Lady Tigers is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m., from the SFA Tennis Courts.
