SFA Gets Split In Conference Openers

March 2, 2008

Final Stats

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Ladyjack tennis picked up its first conference win of the season on Saturday against McNeese State, earning a weekend split in conference-opening action after falling to Lamar on Friday at the Schleif Tennis Complex.

The Ladyjacks (5-7, 1-1) took the doubles point against the Cowgirls when the teams of Roxana Enica and Mary Harrison, along with Andreea Enica and Jamie Williams claimed two out of the three matches, giving SFA an early 1-0 lead.

Roxana Enica then opened up the singles play with a convincing win in No. 1 singles, over the top player for McNeese, Meri Gol Alamo, 6-2, 6-3. Overall, SFA would take five of the six singles points with wins from Sanjana Kapur, Gabriela Gadeva, Andreea Enica and Tatiana Smolnikova to take the match 6-0.

Against Lamar, things did not go as smoothly as the Ladyjacks could never quite get on track in their conference opener, falling 6-1. The Cardinals took the doubles point, despite Mary Harrison and Roxana Enica earning a win for SFA.

In singles play, only No. 4 player Gabriela Gadeva could muster a point. She defeated Maria Gutierrez 4-6, 6-4 (5-3), 6-2.

SFA continues conference play next Saturday on the road in Thibodaux, La., against Nicholls State.
