March 3, 2003
SHREVEPORT, La. - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack tennis team picked up its first win of the season, knocking off Centenary College, 6-1, Saturday. The Ladyjacks are now 1-3 (.250) on the season. The Ladyjacks grabbed a 1-0 lead by sweeping all three doubles matches. The Ladies tied the match at one after picking up a victory at No. 1 singles. The Ladyjacks regained the advantage after Emily Voss defeated Centenary's Heather Kelley, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 2 singles. Senior Christine Huynh followed with a 6-1, 6-1, victory over Elizabeth Pitts at No. 3 singles. The Ladyjacks closed out the match winning the final three singles matches. "The team played tough today," said SFA head coach Bret Arrant. "We tried some new doubles combinations and they seemed to work fine. Everyone got a big singles victory except for Gennan Houston who was just outmatched by the young German Anja Schmidt." The Ladyjacks return to action Friday to take on Abilene Christian. The match is slated to begin at 9 a.m., from the SFA Tennis Courts. -SFA- |
