NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack tennis team kicked-off the 2004 Southland Conference schedule in victorious fashion Saturday afternoon beating 2003 SLC tournament champion Louisiana-Monroe, 6-1. The Ladyjacks are now 3-5 (.375) on the season and 1-0 in Southland Conference play.

SFA took a 1-0 advantage after sweeping the doubles point, but the Lady Indians fought back to tie the match winning at No. 1 singles. But that would be as close to victory as ULM would get as the Ladyjacks rattled off five-straight singles wins.

The Ladyjacks lower half of the singles lineup dominated ULM, surrendering only one game. Sophomore Megan Langston defeated the Lady Indians Kayla Dauzat, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 4 singles. Freshman Kama Scott beat Louisiana-Monroe's Cassidy Shaw, 6-1, 6-0, while junior Emily Voss hammered Mary Fontenot, 6-0, 6-0.

The Ladyjacks return to action Sunday when they host Northwestern State. The match against the Lady Demons is slated to begin at 11 a.m.
