SFA Drops Pair In Bayou City

Feb. 14, 2008

Houston Stats Rice Stats

HOUSTON, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks fell in a pair of matches to Houston and Rice on Wednesday, dropping their season mark to 2-4 on the season.

SFA opened up the day with an early-morning match against Houston, but never could get on track against the Cougars, falling 7-0. Houston took the doubles point by claiming all three matches and Roxana Enica was the only Ladyjack to steal a set against the Cougars, taking the first set in No. 1 singles action against Lucy Forward, before eventually dropping the match 5-7, 6-2, 10-8.

Mary Harrison just missed out on an early lead in No. 3 singles, falling 7-6, 6-3, to Joanna Kacprzyk as the rest of the Ladyjacks fell in their singles matches as well.

SFA traveled across town for the afternoon session, eventually falling to a tough Rice squad 7-0 as well.

Rice cruised through doubles action, taking each of the three matches to claim the doubles point before not allowing a single set to go the way of SFA in singles play.

Enica ran into a tough assignment in No. 1 singles, falling to the nation's No. 99 player, Julie Chao, 6-2, 6-1. Tatiana Smolnikova would put forth the best showing in singles, but still fell to Emily Braid 7-5, 6-3.

The Ladyjacks will travel to Arkadelphia, Ark., this weekend to take on Henderson State and Delta State on the HSU campus.
