Head volleyball coach Debbie Humphreys has established a tradition of excellence during her 12 years as coach of the Stephen F. Austin State University Ladyjacks. Humphreys is one of the most successful coaches in Southland Conference history. She has led the Ladyjacks to three SLC regular-season and tournament titles, five postseason tournament appearances and 12 consecutive Southland Conference Tournament appearances, while compiling an impressive 270-142 record. During Humphreys’ tenure as head coach, she has turned the Ladyjack volleyball program into an extremely successful program both on and off the court. A former Academic All-American finalist, Humphreys seeks student-athletes during the recruiting season who excel in the classroom as well as on the court. For four consecutive years, Ladyjack student-athletes were named to the national academic team, and two of the six district finalists have represented SFA. During the fall, nine Ladyjack student-athletes were named to the Southland Conference Commissioner’s List for academic excellence and 10 were named to the school’s Dean’s List. In the spring, all 12 members of the team were named to the Dean’s List. A native of Rochester, Ill., Humphreys received her bachelor’s degree in physical education from Texas Tech in 1986 and her master’s degree in 1988. The senior MVP left her mark on the Tech volleyball program. Humphreys earned All-Southwest Conference honors as a senior and was a three-year starter for the Lady Raiders. Humphreys is a member of the American Volleyball Coaches Association. At the 1998-99 Ladyjack Awards Banquet, Humphreys was named to the 1999 SFA “Hall of Honor” for her accomplishments at SFA. In addition to coaching, she is in her fifth year as the Senior Woman Administrator at SFA. She has taken an active role in promoting gender equity for SFA athletics. Humphreys and her husband Richard are the proud parents of two children, Regan Renee (1) and William Rex (3 months).
