SFA Extends Conference Streak to 53 Matches With Win Over UCA
Sept. 22, 2007
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks kept their conference win streak in tact and moved to 2-0 on the conference slate with a 3-0 (30-28, 30-18, 30-27) sweep of Central Arkansas on Saturday. SFA (11-5, 2-0) continued its efficient play with a .284 hitting percentage for the evening; SFA held down the Sugar Bears (13-4, 0-2) in the final two games to a .116 and .103 hitting percentage. Debbie Humphreys' club has now won five matches in a row and extended its win streak to 53 matches over conference opponents with the win. The group will host UT-Pan American on Tuesday before putting the streak back on the line against UT-San Antonio and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. After Friday saw the Ladyjacks find success from the middle, Saturday told a different story as junior outside hitters Lauren Railey and Shelly Swendig did the majority of the offensive damage finishing with 14 and 13 kills apiece. Railey just missed a double-double with nine digs and will be eyeing the 1,000-dig mark for her career on Tuesday at home. Defensively Laurel Kuepker and Jami Hill pulled out 15 digs apiece with Hill adding in a pair of aces on the side. SFA could only manage five team blocks against a large UCA front line, but SFA was still able to out block UCA by a 5-4 count. It is the 11th consecutive match SFA has out blocked its opponent. JJ Jones and Whitney Schott combined for 41 assists on the Ladyjacks' 53 kills. SFA also out served the Sugar Bears with nine aces to UDA's three. -SFA-
