SFA Extends SLC Win Streak To 55 Matches In Win Over Islanders
Sept. 29, 2007 NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin volleyball team picked up its sixth consecutive sweep, and twelfth win in its last thirteen matches, by beating Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 3-0 (30-17, 30-15, 30-28) at Johnson Coliseum on Saturday afternoon. The win sets up a Thursday showdown between the two league favorites in the Southland Conference, SFA (14-5, 4-0) and UT-Arlington. The Ladyjacks have now won 55 straight in SLC play, and are quickly eyeing the all-time league mark of 58-straight matches by UTA that was snapped in 1991. Saturday saw SFA dominate games one and two, hitting over .380 in each game before the Islanders (4-12, 1-3) had their best game of the afternoon in game three. TAMUCC led late in the game at 28-27, but an Islander attack error and a pair of Traci Rohde kills was enough to give the Ladyjacks the game three edge. Rohde continued her stellar play in her final stint through the Southland Conference, registering a team-high 12 kills with no errors for a .500 attack percentage on the night. Lauren Railey was next in line, dropping in nine kills with 14 digs in the three games. JJ Jones and Whitney Schott combined for 36 assists in directing the offense to a .322 clip for the match. The Islanders, who were coming off a win on Thursday over Sam Houston, were led by Christie Feliz with 17 kills and Lauren Paslay with a dozen. The Ladyjacks now begin a six-match road swing beginning Thursday in Arlington. They will not return to the confines of Johnson Coliseum until October 23 against Sam Houston. -SFA-
