SFA Sets New SLC Record With Win At Nicholls State
Oct. 19, 2007 THIBODAUX, La. - More than three years after its last loss in conference play, the Stephen F. Austin volleyball team now sits at the top of the Southland Conference record book after defeating Nicholls State 3-0 (30-24, 30-13, 30-16) on Friday for its 59th consecutive conference win - a new SLC record. Currently only two schools in the country - Florida A&M (96) and Winthrop (60) - hold longer streaks against conference foes. "It feels good to have it and have the hype out of the way," head coach Debbie Humphreys said. "It never really hit me until we had about 27 points in the third game tonight, but then I got a few chills. Now our goal is just to add on to that total." SFA (18-6, 8-0) rebounded from Wednesday's loss to Tulane where it hit .089 for the match, to hit over .200 against the Colonels (8-16, 2-6). Lauren Railey led the team in kills with 11, committing only one error on the night. Traci Rohde and JJ Jones were right behind her with nine and eight kills, respectively. The Ladyjacks wrap up their swing through Southern Louisiana on Saturday with a test in Hammond, La., versus Southeastern Louisiana. SFA will then return home for a home match on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. against Sam Houston. That match will also double as SFA's Dig For The Cure match where donors can pledge money per Ladyjack dig that will go directly to the American Cancer Society. -SFA-
