June 17, 2013
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Now that the school year is over, and before we begin the 2013-14 academic year, SFA athletics wanted to take a look back at the Top 25 Moments from the 2012-13 season.
On Sept. 9, 2012 the Ladyjacks volleyball ventured into historic Hinkle Fieldhouse for a two-game set against Indiana and Butler in the Butler Classic.
Playing under sweltering conditions without air conditioning, the Ladyjacks recorded the program’s first-ever win over a Big 10 opponent by knocking off the Hoosiers in five sets. The Ladyjacks had previously dropped matches to Purdue in 1999 and Wisconsin in 1995.
SFA went to five sets for the third time in its last four matches and trailed Indiana 10-3 in the fifth set before rallying for eight consecutive points and hanging on for a 3-2 (25-20, 24-26, 23-25, 25-16, 15-13) victory over Indiana.
Katzy Randall finished with 13 kills to lead the Ladyjacks offensively, adding 15 digs to pick up her second double-double of the season. Jill Ivy and freshman Tori Bates each had 11 kills apiece and Paige Holland joined Randall with a double-double, picking up 14 digs to go along with her 43 assists.
Cara Leslie and Sabrina Burns each manned the net, coming up with eight kills apiece while Leslie finished with four blocks and Burns had a team-high seven. Madison Hanlan, OJ Olson and Janet Hill all finished in double-digit digs, Hanlan having a match-high 23, Olson with 16 and Hill with 10.
SFA then capped off their triumph with a 3-0 victory over Butler.
