Ladyjacks Look To Tie Record At Sam Houston On Friday

Oct. 11, 2007

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Ladyjack volleyball team will hit the road again on Friday in search of its 58th consecutive win in Southland Conference play when it travels to Huntsville to face East Texas rival Sam Houston State.

The match can be followed via Gametracker.

If the Ladyjacks pull out the win it will tie UTA for the longest conference win streak in the history of the Southland Conference, and SFA would have a chance to take that record as its own on October 19 at Nicholls State.

SFA has won the last nine matches against the Bearkats dating all the way back to the 2001 season. Debbie Humphreys is 24-11 all time against Sam Houston. Overall, the Ladyjacks used wins over Texas State and UT-Arlington last week to run its current win streak to 10 matches and 15 of their last 16. SFA has also 10 sweeps squeezed into that run.

Sam Houston will be led by Cynthia Yarotsky with averages of 4.16 kills per game and 4.33 digs per game - she is currently the only player in the SLC who averages at least four kills and four digs a game. The `Kats are coming off a pair of losses over the weekend at UT-Arlington and Texas State to drop their record to 9-9 overall and 3-3 in SLC play.

What to watch for:

• With a win over the `Kats, SFA will tie UT-Arlington's streak of 58 straight wins in Southland Conference play.

• Senior Jami Hill has notched back-to-back SLC Defensive Player of the Week honors and has notched at least 21 digs in each of her four matches since taking over at libero.

• With three more service aces, JJ Jones would pass Jenny Orndorff to take sole possession of eighth place on the all-time SFA list.

• SFA's current nine-match win streak over Sam Houston is the longest the program has ever had over the `Kats with a win extending it to a program-best 10 in a row.

• One more win would secure a winning season for the Ladyjacks, its 16th in a row.
