SFA Set For Three-Match Tour Of Southern Louisiana This Week
Oct. 16, 2007
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - With the Southland Conference slate nearly half over, the Ladyjack volleyball team will head to Southern Louisiana for a trio of matches this week that could result in history before it is all said and done. Tulane, Nicholls State and Southeastern Louisiana are all on the docket for the week as SFA will conclude a six-match road swing before heading back to Johnson Coliseum for five of its final seven regular season matches. The Ladyjacks are coming off a hard fought 3-1 win at Sam Houston on Friday that ran its SLC win streak to 58 and tied UTA for the all-time mark in the Southland. The Ladyjacks have now won its last eleven matches and 16 of its last 17 overall; however, SFA will have its hands full on Wednesday with Tulane in New Orleans. The Green Wave was ranked No. 49 in the NCAA's mid-season RPI report and currently stands 17-5 overall and 7-2 in Conference USA. Tulane currently leads Conference USA in hitting percentage, assists and kills as a team and Austin, Texas, native Jen Linder is currently leading all individuals with a .444 hitting percentage. SFA is 3-1 against Conference USA this season, with each match going five games. After getting Thursday off, the Ladyjacks will face Nicholls State and Southeastern Louisiana on back-to-back nights. With a Friday night win over Nicholls State, SFA will establish a new conference record win streak. The Colonels have struggled this season, sitting only one spot out of the SLC East cellar after dropping their last four matches. SFA has won the last three against Nicholls, last losing in the SLC Tournament semifinals in 2003. Libero Enjoli Ford leads the defense, ranking third in the league with 5.26. She has also posted the top two dig performances of the year in the SLC when she posted 35 against Northwestern State and 34 against Tennessee State. Southeastern Louisiana has struggled since entering SLC play, sitting at the bottom of the SLC East with an 0-7 record while only winning one individual game in 22 tries; however, the Lions did pick up a non-conference win on Wednesday against Grambling via sweep. Lauren Mayer and SFA's JJ Jones are the only two players in the SLC to record a triple-double in conference play as Mayer did so in a loss to Central Arkansas on October 6. Her night consisted of 14 kills, 16 assists and 14 digs as it was the first triple-double of her career. What to watch for: With one more conference win, SFA will establish a new record win streak for the Southland Conference and eclipse UTA's mark of 58 in a row. If SFA is able to sweep through the weekend without a loss it will give the squad 20 wins on the season, the fourth year in a row SFA will have accomplished that feat. Traci Rohde needs 27 more kills to move into a tie for 10th place with Laura Cramer on the SFA all-time list. Jami Hill has a seven-match streak of at least 10 digs, including at least 21 digs in each of her last six matches.
