SFA Returns Home To Face Sam Houston On Tuesday

Oct. 22, 2007

Game Notes

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - After not hosting a home match since September 29, the Ladyjack volleyball team puts to end that 24-day hiatus when it hosts Sam Houston on Tuesday in SFA's inaugural Dig For A Cure match at 7:00 p.m.

The Ladyjacks had their 11-match win streak snapped on Wednesday at Tulane, but turned that around for a historic evening in Thibodaux on Friday. The win over the Colonels marked the 59th straight win in Southland Conference play, a new SLC record. SFA will look to run that streak to 61 in a row on Tuesday when Sam Houston comes to Nacogdoches to face the Ladyjacks for the second time in 11 days.

The match will also double as SFA's Dig For A Cure match, benefiting the American Cancer Society as donors can pledge cash for each dig that the Ladyjacks tally during the match. Donations will also be taken on a flat rate at the match, or donors can contact Cole Campbell in the SFA Athletic Department at 936-468-7105 for more information.

What to watch for:

• The Ladyjacks, now with a three-game lead in the SLC West, have their magic number down to five to clinch the division.

JJ Jones is quickly approaching the all-time assist mark at SFA, needing 282 before season's end to claim sole possession of the record. If the Ladyjacks are able to make it all the way to the SLC Tournament championship match, Jones would have to average 28.2 assists per match to take the record.

• SFA has won its last 10 matches against Sam Houston, the longest win streak one school has ever had over the other.

• Currently there are only two teams remaining in the SLC with unblemished records - SFA and Lamar. Each school will face McNeese and Sam Houston this week with the possibility of a head-to-head match on Saturday between two undefeated teams for the inside track at the regular season SLC Championship.
